View a PDF's color profile

Quickly detect whether a PDF uses RGB, CMYK or grayscale colors, and whether it embeds an ICC profile or output information (OutputIntent) — a useful hint before sending a file to the printer.

How it works

This tool searches the raw structure of the PDF for markers characteristic of color spaces (/DeviceRGB, /DeviceCMYK, /DeviceGray) and of advanced color management mechanisms (/ICCBased for an embedded ICC profile, /OutputIntents for a declared output intent, used in particular by files compliant with the PDF/X standard for print). It's a pattern-matching presence check, not a full reading of the color profile.

Can this tool tell me whether my colors will print accurately?

No. This is a known limitation: reading and interpreting a full ICC profile requires a dedicated color management module (CMM), which this tool doesn't have. It simply reports whether these elements are present or absent, which is already a useful indication (a document entirely in RGB with no output intent is likely to look different once the printer converts it to CMYK).

Why can a PDF contain several color spaces at once?

It's very common: text may be in RGB or grayscale while an imported photo stays in its original CMYK, or the other way around. The detection reports every color space found in the document, without saying exactly which object uses which space.
