Edit a PDF's logical page numbering
Define "logical" page numbering ranges (for example: a preface in Roman numerals, then the body of the document in Arabic numerals) as shown in a PDF reader's page panel, without touching the text printed on the pages. 100% local processing in your browser.
How it works
Each range defines, starting from a given page, a numbering style (Arabic numerals, Roman numerals, letters) along with an optional prefix and starting number. This tool builds the PDF's logical numbering table (/PageLabels) from those ranges: it's what most PDF readers show in their page panel, in place of the page's simple physical position.
How is this different from the tool that prints a visible number on the page?
The visible numbering tool draws a number in the content of each page itself (visible on screen and when printed). This one changes the document's logical numbering, shown by the PDF reader in its navigation panel (for example "page iii of 12"), without drawing anything on the pages themselves. The two can be combined for a consistent result.
A concrete example of a setup?
For a report that starts with a 3-page preface followed by the main body: add a first range "start page 1, lowercase Roman style" and a second range "start page 4, style 1, 2, 3, starting number 1". The PDF reader will then show i, ii, iii, then 1, 2, 3…
100% local processing: the edit happens entirely in your browser — your document is never sent to a server.
