View a PDF's permissions/protections

Upload a PDF to find out whether it's protected by a password/encryption and which actions (printing, copying, editing, annotating) are allowed. 100% local processing in your browser (WebAssembly) — your file never leaves your device.

How it works

An encrypted PDF can restrict certain actions (printing, copying, editing) even without an opening password. This tool reads the permission flags stored in the document and clearly shows what's allowed or not, without needing to open the file in a full PDF reader.

The PDF asks me for a password to open it, what happens?

If the document is encrypted to the point where it can't be analyzed without a password, the tool indicates that it's protected but can't detail the exact permissions.

Can I remove these restrictions?

Use our PDF protection removal tool if you have the necessary rights on the document to remove its restrictions.

100% local processing: the analysis happens entirely in your browser via WebAssembly — your PDF is never sent to a server.
