Convert PDF to editable text (Word)
Extract the text from a PDF and download it as an .rtf file that you can open and edit directly in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer or Apple Pages.
How it works
The PDF's text is extracted and then wrapped in an RTF (Rich Text Format) document, an open text format that every word processor can open and edit directly, with no special extension to install.
Why an .rtf file and not a real .docx?
A .docx is a ZIP archive containing several complex XML files; RTF is a much simpler text format that is easier to produce reliably, and Word, LibreOffice and Pages all open it natively as an editable document. It is the best compromise between simplicity and compatibility for this purpose.
Is the original layout (columns, tables, images) preserved?
No, and that is intentional: only the plain text is retrieved, with a page break between each page of the original PDF. Fonts, tables, images and column layouts are not reconstructed; for a document that needs faithful formatting, some manual rework in Word after conversion is still necessary.
100% local processing: text extraction runs through WebAssembly directly in your browser, and your PDF is never sent to a server.
