Random team generator

Split a list of names into random, balanced teams, for example to form work groups, sports teams, or game pairs.

Example:
Change it for a different draw.

How it works

Whether it's organizing a sports tournament with friends, splitting students into fair work groups, or drawing pairs for a workshop, forming teams by hand is tedious and sometimes sparks arguments. This tool randomly shuffles the provided list of names, then splits it as evenly as possible across the requested number of teams.

Is the draw really different every time?

Yes, if you change the "random seed" value, you get a different split. However, with the same list of names and the same seed, the result is always identical (it's a reproducible draw), which is handy if you want to be able to regenerate exactly the same draw later.

What happens if the number of names isn't divisible by the number of teams?

The remaining names are distributed one by one among the teams, starting with the first, so team sizes never differ by more than one member.

The draw runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly — your list of names is never sent to a server.
