Resting metabolic rate calculator (RMR)

Estimate your resting metabolic rate (RMR), that is, the energy your body burns at rest, as well as your total daily energy expenditure based on your activity level. The entire calculation is done directly in your browser.

Used to estimate your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE)

How it works

This tool uses the Mifflin-St Jeor formula, one of the most reliable and widely used equations for estimating resting metabolic rate (RMR), that is, the minimum energy your body needs at rest to maintain its vital functions (breathing, circulation, temperature regulation...). The RMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to obtain your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE), useful for adjusting your calorie intake.

What is the difference between RMR and TDEE?

RMR corresponds to the calories burned at complete rest, with no activity at all. TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) adds to this the energy spent on your daily activities and physical exercise. It's TDEE that gives a realistic estimate of the number of calories to consume to maintain, lose or gain weight.

Does this calculation replace medical or nutritional advice?

No. These results are estimates for informational purposes based on an average statistical formula; they do not take into account particular medical conditions, actual body composition or specific needs. This tool does not replace the advice of a doctor, a dietitian or a nutritionist, especially in the case of a medical condition, pregnancy or a specific weight-related goal.
