Return on investment (ROI) calculator

Calculate the ROI (return on investment) of an investment, project or campaign from the initial cost and the final value obtained, with an annualized rate if the investment was spread over several months. No financial data is sent to a server.

How it works

ROI (Return On Investment) measures the profitability of an investment by relating the net gain obtained to the initial cost committed. It can be used for a financial investment just as well as to evaluate a marketing campaign, a rental property purchase or a business project, whenever you can put a figure on a starting cost and a final result.

Why calculate an annualized ROI in addition to the overall ROI?

A 25% ROI does not mean the same thing if it was earned in 6 months or in 5 years. Annualized ROI brings performance back to a comparable one-year basis, which lets you fairly compare investments of different durations — a 25% return over 5 years performs far worse per year than the same gain earned in 6 months.

Does ROI take inflation or taxes into account?

No, this calculation gives a gross ROI based only on the cost and final value you enter. For a finer analysis, you would need to deduct capital gains tax and adjust the result for inflation over the period, which depends on your personal tax situation.

The calculation runs entirely in your browser: your investment amounts never leave your device.
