Inflation calculator (fixed rate)
Using a fixed annual inflation rate, estimate how much something that costs a certain amount today will cost in the future — and conversely, what a sum of money that stays untouched will be worth in the future, in today's purchasing power. 100% local calculation, no data transmitted.
How it works
With inflation, the same sum of money buys fewer and fewer goods and services over time. This tool applies a fixed annual inflation rate and compounds the effect over several years, to estimate both the equivalent future nominal amount and the loss of purchasing power of a sum that would sit idle (for example in a non-interest-bearing account).
What is the difference between the “future nominal amount” and the “future purchasing power”?
The future nominal amount is the sum you would need in the future to buy the same thing that €1,000 buys today: it increases over time. The future purchasing power, on the other hand, assumes your sum stays fixed (it doesn't grow) and calculates what it will really be worth, in today's terms, once inflation is deducted: it decreases over time.
Does this calculation replace the official INSEE figures?
No, it's a simulation at a fixed, constant rate, useful for getting a quick idea. Real inflation varies from year to year and differs across categories of goods (food, energy, housing...): for precise, historical data, refer to the consumer price indices published by INSEE or Eurostat.
