Text checksum comparator

Compare the SHA-256 hash of two texts to instantly check whether they are exactly identical, including invisible differences (spaces, line breaks).

Example:

How it works

This tool calculates the SHA-256 hash of two texts and directly compares the resulting fingerprints. It's useful for checking that a configuration file pasted from two different sources is truly identical, that a text hasn't been modified between two copies, or for spotting an invisible space or line break that makes two seemingly identical texts actually different.

Why do two texts that look identical give different hashes?

SHA-256 is extremely sensitive: a single extra space, a Windows-style line ending (CRLF) instead of a Unix one (LF), or an invisible character is enough to produce a completely different hash. That is precisely what makes this tool useful for detecting this kind of difference that is "invisible to the eye".

Can I use this tool to compare two files?

Yes, by pasting the text content of each file into the two fields. For binary files (images, PDFs...), it's better to use a hash tool designed for files rather than a simple copy and paste of text.

100% local processing: the calculation runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly, and your texts never leave your device.
