Typographic inconsistency detector

Paste a text and automatically spot competing variants used side by side (email/e-mail, wifi/wi-fi, units attached or spaced, straight or French quotes) so you can make your writing consistent. The analysis runs entirely in your browser.

How it works

A text that has been proofread or written by several people often mixes competing variants, such as "email" and "e-mail" side by side, or units that are sometimes attached and sometimes spaced ("5km" then "5 km"). These inconsistencies aren't mistakes, but they hurt the visual consistency of a document. The tool looks for predefined pairs of variants and flags those that appear several times in different forms.

Does the tool correct the text automatically?

No, it only flags the inconsistencies, with their number of occurrences and the lines concerned: choosing which variant to keep (for example "e-mail" rather than "email") is up to you, since it often depends on a style guide or a personal preference.

Which units are checked for spacing?

The tool automatically checks the most common units: kilometers, kilograms, centimeters, meters, hours, minutes, percent and euros, comparing their use attached to the number ("10%") and spaced ("10 %") across the whole text.

The pasted text stays local to your browsing session: it is neither saved nor sent to any external service.
