How it works

The layout uses the CSS column-count property, which automatically distributes the text across the chosen number of columns, balancing their height. Adjust the number of columns and the spacing with the sliders to see the result update immediately in the preview.

Can I take this layout and use it on my own site?

The layout relies on the standard CSS properties column-count and column-gap, supported by all modern browsers: you can reproduce this layout on your site by applying the same CSS properties to a text container, with the values chosen in the sliders above.

Why does justified text sometimes show large gaps between words?

This is a well-known effect of justification in narrow columns: when only a few words fit on a line, the browser has to stretch the spaces more to align the text on both sides of the column. Reducing the number of columns or turning off justification limits this visual effect.

100% local processing: the layout is calculated by your browser using CSS, and your text never leaves your device.
