Remove duplicate words

Automatically find and remove repeated words in a text, whether it's an accidental consecutive repeat ("the the") or any repeat of the same word throughout the text. 100% local processing, with no data sent to a server.

How it works

Handy for fixing a common typo where a word is accidentally typed twice in a row, or for spotting words you overuse in a piece of writing. Paste your text, choose the detection mode that fits, then click "Remove duplicates".

What's the difference between the two detection modes?

The "consecutive" mode only removes words repeated immediately one after the other, as in "I I think", a very common typing error. The "all duplicated words" mode is more aggressive: it keeps only the first occurrence of each word across the whole text, which can change the meaning significantly if a word is legitimately repeated (be sure to proofread the result before using it).

Is punctuation taken into account in the comparison?

No, punctuation attached to a word ("cat," and "cat") is ignored in the comparison so that a comma or period doesn't cause a duplicate to be missed, but it is kept on the remaining word in the output text.

No part of your text is sent to a server: the cleanup runs entirely in your browser.
