How it works

Handy for a writer, blogger, or community manager who needs to estimate the length and reading time of an article before publishing, or check that a text meets a length constraint. The number of sentences is estimated by counting terminal punctuation marks (., !, ?), and reading time is based on an average speed of 200 words per minute.

How is reading time calculated?

It's estimated by dividing the word count by 200 (an adult's average reading speed in words per minute), rounded up to the nearest whole minute, with a minimum of one minute as soon as the text contains at least one word.

Why can the sentence count be imprecise?

The sentence count is an estimate based on terminal punctuation marks; it can be slightly skewed by abbreviations (like "Mr." or "etc."), ellipses, or nested quotes.

100% local processing: the analysis runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly, your text never leaves your device.
