Truncate text (ellipsis)
Cut a text to a maximum length while respecting word boundaries, with an ellipsis at the end — handy for previews, meta descriptions or card titles.
How it works
The tool counts the characters in your text: if it exceeds the maximum length you chose, it cuts at the last space found before that limit (so a word is never split in two) and adds "…" at the end. It's exactly what you need to generate an article excerpt, an SEO meta description or the preview text of a product card without exceeding a display limit.
Is the text ever cut in the middle of a word?
No, unless no space is found before the limit (for example a very long word with no spaces): only in that case is the cut made strictly at the requested number of characters, to respect the maximum length.
What happens if my text is already shorter than the limit?
The text is returned as is, with no changes and no ellipsis added.
100% local processing: the text you enter never leaves your browser, and all processing runs directly on your device via WebAssembly.
