ULID generator

Generate ULIDs — unique identifiers that sort chronologically and are more compact than a UUID — right in your browser. 100% local processing — nothing is sent to a server.

How it works

A ULID (Universally Unique Lexicographically Sortable Identifier) encodes a 48-bit timestamp (millisecond precision) followed by 80 random bits, all formatted as 26 readable characters using the Crockford Base32 alphabet (with no ambiguous letters like I, L, O or U). The result: unlike a UUID v4, ULIDs generated in chronological order stay sortable in plain alphabetical order.

What's the difference between a ULID and a UUID?

A UUID v4 is entirely random and follows no logical order once sorted, which can hurt index performance in some databases. A ULID embeds a timestamp as a prefix, which makes it naturally sorted by creation order while keeping enough randomness to avoid collisions, in a shorter and more readable format than a classic UUID.

When should I prefer a ULID over a UUID?

ULIDs are especially well suited to database primary keys, event or log identifiers, and any context where the creation order of records matters for query performance or for the readability of identifiers generated in bulk.

Generation runs entirely in your browser using the secure cryptographic API: no identifier is sent to a server.
