Unicode escape converter (\u)
Convert text to Unicode escape sequences (\uXXXX) or decode \uXXXX sequences into readable text — useful for debugging a JSON or JavaScript string encoded in Unicode.
Text to \u
\u to text
How it works
In the "Text to \u" direction, each character is converted to its Unicode escape notation \uXXXX (the character's hexadecimal code). In the opposite direction, each \uXXXX or \u{"{"}XXXX{"}"} sequence found in the text is converted to its matching character. This is useful for debugging a JSON or JavaScript string where accented characters were automatically escaped, or for checking the exact code of a particular Unicode character.
Are both the \uXXXX and \u{XXXX} formats accepted when decoding?
Yes, the decoder recognizes both the classic 4-hex-digit notation (é) and the braced notation used by some languages like Rust, or for characters outside the Basic Multilingual Plane (\u{1F600}).
What happens if the text contains a mix of sequences and normal text?
Only recognized \uXXXX sequences are converted; the rest of the text is left unchanged, which lets you process partially escaped strings.
100% local processing: your text never leaves your browser, and the conversion runs entirely via WebAssembly on your device.
