Unprotect a PDF (known password)

Remove the password from an encrypted PDF, provided you know that password. The resulting file can then be opened, edited, or printed freely. 100% local processing in your browser (WebAssembly) — your file and your password never leave your device.

Remove a password you no longer need

This tool is for people who protected a PDF themselves with a password (for example before emailing it) and now want to remove protection that has become unnecessary, or for those who received a locked document whose password they legitimately know (provided by the sender, a bank statement, a payslip, etc.). Import the PDF, enter the current password, and get a copy of the document with no protection at all, freely editable and printable.

Can this tool remove a password I've forgotten?

No. You need to know and enter the PDF's current password so the tool can decrypt it and produce an unprotected version. This is not a password-cracking or recovery tool: if you've lost the password to a document, this tool won't help you retrieve it.

Is my password sent anywhere?

No. The password you enter stays in your browser: it is used only by the local WebAssembly module to decrypt the file, and is then neither transmitted nor stored anywhere.

Like all our other tools, decryption is done 100% locally in your browser via WebAssembly: your file and your password are never sent to a server.
