UTM zone finder from GPS coordinates

Find the UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) zone, latitude band, hemisphere and central meridian that match a GPS coordinate.

Example:

How it works

The UTM system divides the Earth into 60 zones, each 6° of longitude wide and numbered 1 to 60, and into 8° latitude bands identified by a letter (from C to X, excluding I and O). The combination of number + letter (e.g. "31U") identifies a specific zone.

Each zone has its own central meridian, used as the reference for the projection: this is what lets the UTM system stay accurate over moderate distances, unlike a single global projection.

To get the full easting/northing coordinates in this zone, use the UTM ↔ latitude/longitude coordinate converter.

100% local processing: the calculation runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly — your coordinates are never sent to a server.
