Remove audio from a video (no re-encoding)

Completely remove the audio track from a video without touching or re-encoding the picture. The operation is almost instant because only the audio stream is removed from the container. Everything happens in your browser, with no upload to a server.

How it works

A video file is a container that bundles a picture track and one or more audio tracks. This tool rewrites the container by copying the video track as is (with no quality loss or recompression) and simply leaving out the audio track or tracks, using the ffmpeg engine compiled to WebAssembly and run locally.

Why is processing so fast?

Because the picture isn't re-encoded (the "copy" option for the video stream), the operation needs almost no computation: it just removes a stream from the container. A video several minutes long can therefore be processed in a few seconds, unlike a full re-encode, which would take much longer.

Is the picture quality affected?

No, the picture stays strictly identical to the original since it is never recompressed: only the audio track is removed from the file.

No external upload: the video is opened, processed and re-muxed entirely on your device and never passes through a server.
