Generate a thumbnail from a video

Import a video, choose a precise moment, then capture that frame as a downloadable PNG thumbnail.

Example:

How it works

This tool relies on your browser's native capabilities to decode the video and extract a single frame, at the exact moment you choose. No video is uploaded anywhere: everything happens directly in a video element on the page. The captured frame is drawn onto a canvas using the Canvas API, then converted into an immediately downloadable PNG file.

How do I choose the right moment?

For a nice cover image, avoid the very first moments (often black or blurry) and prefer a moment in the heart of the action, with a sharp frame. This thumbnail can then be used as a preview image, for example with the poster attribute of a <video> tag.

100% local processing: your video file never leaves your browser — no data is sent to a server.
