Capture a thumbnail from a video

Import a video, move the slider to the moment you want using the live preview, then capture that exact frame as a downloadable PNG or JPEG.

How it works

This tool uses your browser's native video element to seek to the exact moment you choose, then draws the frame displayed at that point onto a canvas via the Canvas API. The canvas is then converted into an image file (PNG or JPEG) ready to download, without ever leaving your device.

Why choose JPEG over PNG?

PNG keeps maximum quality but produces larger files, which is ideal for archiving or later editing. JPEG, with an adjustable quality slider, gives a much lighter file and works very well for a thumbnail displayed on the web, for example as a video preview or cover image.

The slider doesn't land exactly on the frame I want. What can I do?

Dragging the slider gives an approximate position, second by second. Use the playback controls of the video preview above to spot the right moment visually, note the time shown, then fine-tune the value in 0.1-second steps before capturing.

No upload to a server: playback, seeking and frame capture all happen entirely in your browser.
