Convert a video to GIF

Extract a section of a video and convert it into an optimized animated GIF, with an automatically computed color palette for a sharp result and a lighter file, entirely in your browser.

How it works

The conversion runs in two ffmpeg passes: the first generates an optimal color palette suited to the content of the selected section, and the second applies that palette when encoding the GIF, which avoids the color noise typical of GIFs generated in a single pass.

Why limit the section to 20 seconds?

The GIF format doesn't compress as efficiently as video: every added frame makes the file much heavier. Beyond 20 seconds, the result quickly becomes large and slow to load, especially at high resolution or a high frame rate.

Which FPS and width should I choose?

For a smooth, lightweight GIF meant for the web or social networks, 10 to 15 fps and a width of 400 to 600 px offer a good compromise. Raise the FPS to 20 for smoother playback of fast action, or reduce the width to save size if the GIF will be shared over slow connections.

100% local processing: the GIF is generated entirely in your browser via WebAssembly, and your video never leaves your device.
