VO2max estimator
Estimate your VO2max, your body's maximum capacity to consume oxygen during exercise, from a 12-minute running test (Cooper test) or your resting heart rate. Fully local calculation, in your browser.
How it works
VO2max, expressed in milliliters of oxygen consumed per kilogram of body weight per minute, is one of the most widely used indicators for assessing an athlete's cardiorespiratory fitness. This tool offers two common estimation methods that don't require any lab equipment.
What is the Cooper test?
The Cooper test consists of running the greatest possible distance in 12 minutes. Developed by Dr. Kenneth Cooper for the U.S. military, it remains one of the simplest field tests for estimating VO2max without specialized equipment, using the formula (distance in meters − 504.9) / 44.73.
Do these estimates replace a lab test?
No. A lab test with an expired-gas analyzer (maximal exercise test on a treadmill or bike) remains the reference for an accurate VO2max measurement. The formulas used here give a good approximation for tracking your progress over time, but may differ from the true value by several points depending on fitness level and running technique.
