Wallpaper roll calculator
Estimate how many wallpaper rolls to buy to cover a room, taking into account the roll dimensions and any pattern repeat. Instant calculation, nothing is sent to a server.
How it works
Hanging wallpaper means dividing the room into "strips" (vertical bands the width of the roll) that cover the full wall height. This tool calculates how many strips are needed to cover the perimeter of the room (minus doors and windows), how many strips can be cut from a single roll given the pattern repeat, and then works out the total number of rolls to buy.
What is the "pattern repeat" and why does it increase consumption?
Some patterned wallpapers must be aligned from one strip to the next so the design continues properly; the repeat is the vertical distance between two identical occurrences of the pattern. To keep this alignment, each strip has to be cut to a length rounded up to a multiple of the repeat, which creates more waste and therefore increases the amount of wallpaper needed compared with a plain design.
Why does the calculation recommend allowing a margin?
A small safety margin (one extra roll) is generally recommended to absorb cutting mistakes, wall imperfections, or to keep enough paper to repair a damaged area later with wallpaper from the same production batch, since shades can vary slightly from one batch to another.
