PWA manifest icon auditor

Paste the JSON content of your manifest.json to check for the recommended icon sizes (192x192, 512x512), the "maskable" purpose and correct formats before publishing your progressive web app.

How it works

A PWA manifest can be technically valid JSON and still lack the icons browsers expect before offering installation, or declare icons that will be poorly cropped on Android because there is no "maskable" safe zone. This tool analyzes the icons array in your manifest and lists common problems: missing sizes, no maskable purpose, unusual formats or missing required fields.

Why are the 192x192 and 512x512 sizes recommended?

These are the two sizes most widely expected by browsers and operating systems to display the icon on the home screen (192x192) and in contexts that need a higher resolution, such as the splash screen (512x512). Without them, some browsers simply refuse to offer installing the app.

What is a "maskable" icon?

An icon with "purpose": "maskable" is designed with a large enough central safe zone to be cropped into different shapes (circle, rounded square, teardrop...) depending on the user's Android system, without cutting off important parts of the logo. Without a dedicated maskable icon, Android may apply an automatic crop that distorts or truncates the artwork.
