How it works
French tradition associates each wedding anniversary with a material or symbolic element, meant to reflect the strength of the couple over the years: light and fragile like cotton in the first year, precious and brilliant like gold at 50 years. This list is used to choose a gift or party theme that fits the number of years being celebrated.
Why do some years have no specific name?
The tradition officially covers only certain key years (often every year up to 25, then in steps of 5 years beyond that). For years not covered by this table, the tool shows the closest listed name for guidance, but there is no single official standard for these cases.
Are these names the same everywhere in the world?
No: traditions vary by country and language. For example, the 35th wedding anniversary is sometimes called "coral wedding" in France but "ruby wedding" in other Anglo-Saxon traditions. This tool follows the most commonly accepted French-speaking convention.
