Format XML
You have a compact XML export (RSS feed, config file, API response) all on one line, and no dedicated XML editor on hand? Paste it here to get an indented version, one tag per line, directly readable.
Warning : this is a basic formatter (indentation by nesting level), not a full XML parser with schema validation. Unlike HTML, XML has no implicit self-closing tags : only the explicit <tag/> syntax is recognized as such.
How it works
Paste your minified or compact XML into the field above and click "Format": the tool identifies opening, closing, and self-closing tags (<tag/>), places each tag (or text node) on its own line, and indents by 2 spaces per nesting level. Declarations like <?xml version="1.0"?> and comments <!-- --> are kept as-is on their own line.
Is this suitable for reformatting an RSS feed?
Yes, an RSS feed is standard XML : pasting the raw content of a feed here immediately shows the hierarchy of elements (channel, item, title, link...) without needing to open a dedicated XML editor.
What happens if my XML is malformed?
The tool reports an error if a tag is never closed (missing >). However, since it doesn't perform full schema validation, XML that is syntactically valid but doesn't comply with a given business schema (DTD, XSD) will still be reformatted without warning.
Formatting runs 100% locally in your browser via WebAssembly : your XML content is never sent to a server.
