Create a password-protected ZIP archive
Bundle one or more files into a password-protected ZIP archive, openable with most common archive software (7-Zip, WinRAR, the Windows/macOS file explorer). Everything is built in your browser, your files are never sent to a server.
How it works
This tool builds a standard ZIP archive directly in your browser, then encrypts the contents of each file with the "ZipCrypto" algorithm, the traditional password encryption of the ZIP format, recognized by almost all archiving software. Files are stored without compression ("store" mode): the archive may therefore be slightly larger than the original, but it remains fully compatible and quick to generate.
Is this encryption safe for highly sensitive data?
No, let's be honest about this: ZipCrypto is a historic encryption method from the 1980s, now considered weak and crackable in a few minutes with specialized tools (notably via a known plaintext attack). It's a basic protection, sufficient to deter occasional or accidental access (for example, protecting a file attached to an email against being opened by mistake), but it is not strong encryption. For genuinely sensitive data, use modern encryption such as AES-256 via a dedicated tool (7-Zip in .7z format with AES encryption, VeraCrypt, etc.).
Why isn't the archive compressed?
The DEFLATE compression normally used in ZIP files requires a complex algorithm. To keep things simple, reliable and fast, this tool stores files as-is (without compression) before encrypting them. If your files are already compressed (photos, videos, PDFs), this barely changes the final size anyway.
Your files and your password never leave your device: the archive is entirely built and encrypted locally, in your browser.
